Mrs. Bruner Visits

This past week, we welcomed the last two second grade teachers into our classroom for us to meet.  The first one was Mrs. Bruner!  As we have some students with older siblings in her class, her visit was very exciting!

Some of the things that we learned about Mrs. Bruner were that her husband is both an elementary teacher at the UPA Mark Murry Campus as well as a fireman, she loves teaching math and her favorite color is purple!  She also read us a book called Little Panda, that had different textures on each page for the children to touch! 

The children asked questions about what her classroom looks like, what websites they will be using, what kind of books they will be reading and if she would be open to getting a classroom pet.  They also loved the idea of being right above our classroom!

Our Last Field Trip of the Year - The Toledo Zoo!!

I am so excited to announce the date for our zoo field trip!  We will be traveling to the Toledo Zoo on Wednesday, June 15!  As always, I am looking for chaperones.  As the field trip is a month away, I was hoping to give those parents who have wanted to join us in the past a chance to check their schedules early.  Please let me know if you are available so that I can save a spot for you.  Thank you so much!

Celebration of the Arts!

Next Wednesday, May 18, our school will be holding our first Celebration of the Arts. The night will include:

The UPA Art Show (every child will have one of their art pieces shown!)
A Poetry Cafe (where the children can read poems that they wrote or like)
A lot of displayed writing from the different floors
Music, food, prizes and more...

It would be great to see everyone there!

AMPT Schedule Change

Our AMPT schedule has changed for the last time of the year! Please remember that the children need to have gym shoes to change into on days that we have physical education.*

Milestone #3 Due This Thursday, May 12

This is a gentle reminder that Milestone #3 is due this Thursday, May 12.  This is the academic goals check. I will be sitting down with each child and going over their progress on the goals that we set for them.

The children do not need to bring in anything for this milestone.

Planetarium Reminder

Please remember that we are asking for $1.00 per student to go to Wayne State University Planetarium.  The money is due by Wednesday, May 11.  I am still on the lookout for a chaperone as well.

Just as a heads up, I have been told that there is a good chance of rain on Friday.  As we are planning on walking, this would require us to postpone our trip.  I will keep you updated as soon as I know more information about our plans.

Ms. Sizemore Visits

Our second guest teacher joined our class for some questions and fun this past week.  As you may know, our class has been inviting next year's second grade teachers into our room to meet the 1st graders, share their thoughts about having them in their classrooms next year and answer any questions the children might have about themselves or moving up to the second floor. 

Following Ms. Chisolm's visit this past week, we met Ms. Sizemore!  Ms. Sizemore told us about her classroom, where she calls the children scholars.  We also learned that Ms. Sizemore is from California, she likes the color green and she has posters of famous people on her walls!  The children asked her about blocks and computers, classroom pets and second grade lunches!  She also read the children her favorite book, The Giving Tree.
