Volunter Opportunities

As we enter the 3rd semester of the year, I wanted to resend the sign up links for volunteering in our classroom.  In addition to this week's key chain making, we also have several dates available for Scientists with a Twist, Fresh Fruit Fridays and Morning Managers.  Also, while all spots are filled for Mystery Reader, if you have not read to the class and would still like to, please let me know and we can arrange a date and time that works with both your schedule and ours.

Popcorn Day - Tuesday, March 28

This is a gentle reminder that tomorrow, Tuesday, March 28, will be Popcorn Day.  Each bag of popcorn costs $0.50.

Last Key Chain Making Session

We will be having our last key chain making session next Thursday, March 30, from 11am-12pm. If you are interested in joining us, please use the below link to sign up. We are asking volunteers to come 30 minutes early (at 10:30am) to help tie knots before the children start working at 11:00am.

Compass Learning Challenge

The following letter was recently sent home explaining our challenge for the next 30 days.  Please know that the first grade teachers will be able to keep track of the number of minutes your child spends working on their individual learning path, so you do not need to do so.

It’s time for a first grade challenge! We are challenging students to spend 300 minutes in the next 30 days working on Math on Compass Learning! The NWEA math test that we took in the winter has created a learning path specifically aligned to each child’s performance on the test. Students who spend 300 minutes on Compass Learning by April 20 will be invited to have lunch (and fun!) in the classroom with his/her teacher.

Please note that only time spent working on math will count towards this challenge!
Please let me know if you need me to pass along your child’s log-in information again.

Gentle Reminders

Your child's second semester report cards will be coming home in their yellow folders tomorrow, Monday, March 20.  Please sign and return the envelope in your child's folder or bring it with you to conferences, as this will be used to mail the last report card of the year home in June.

Also, your child's NWEA standardized test results will be included in the envelope.  If you have any questions about this assessment, please let me know.

As conferences are this Wednesday, March 22 and Thursday, March 23, I have included the link that lists your chosen appointment time.  I look forward to speaking to you about your amazing children!

Spelling Challenge Words

Due to a busy day last Friday, our class was not able to take our Spelling Challenge.  We will be taking the challenge using last week's words and patterns tomorrow, Monday, March 20.

Gentle Reminders

Small Object Collections
If your child has not brought in their small collection, please send this in with your child tomorrow, Tuesday, March 7.  We will be using them for our opinion writing unit for the next few weeks.  I can provide a collection if necessary, but it would be more personal for the children to have opinions about their own items.

Book Buddy Key Chain Project

Miss Woch and I would like to invite any parents who are interested in volunteering to help the 1st and 2nd graders as they create the custom designed key chains from the orders we collected.  We will be making these on two different dates, with the money collected used to purchase supplies to make goodie bags for The Birthday Project.
