Internatiional Day

The organizers of International Day have asked the children to wear their class shirts for tomorrow's activities.  As we will be traveling in our multi-age Husky Packs, each pack will be as colorful as the real world!

Please send your child to school wearing their green class shirt tomorrow, Thursday, January 29.  If you are not able to send your child in their Harlan shirt, they can also wear green for our class color.

Thank you!

Note from Mr. Price

Dear Families,

This is a quick update and news about our annual Jump Rope for Heart event in February. This year we have already raised $10,998.30 in online donations which puts us #1 in the state so far!!! Great job Harlan!

I will be passing out red paper hearts to each student in the coming weeks.  I am asking all students to return the red heart to me with the name of the person/persons your child will be jumping for this year. They can decorate the heart if they would like to. For example, since I will be jumping for my nephew Blake and my Uncle Brian, I will be writing, “Blake” and “Uncle Brian” on my red heart. If you do not want to write last names that is totally fine. I will be making a collage with all the hearts that are turned in.

This year, we will be donating ducks to kids in hospitals. Students have the opportunity to donate one or some of the ducks that they earned to a child in a hospital. I have been talking to different hospitals about this and the donating of ducks will most likely take place in March.

Please keep in mind these dates:
Red Hearts Due: Feb 12th or before
Envelopes Due: Feb 27th *duck coupons can be turned in anytime*
Date(s) of Event:  During PE class Feb 23th – 27th
Duck donation to hospital: TBD

Students have been telling me that they have “X” amount of donations in there packets. If this is the case, write me a note to let me know and I will pass out the ducks to them. **Remember your student DOES NOT have to raise donations for the American Heart Association in order to participate in this event.**
Thanks for your support in this lifesaving event!

Mr. Tim Price & Mr. Greg DuMont
(Please email me with any questions......NOT the classroom teachers, THANKS)

Strep Throat

From the Harlan Office:

Strep Throat has been reported in your student’s grade level at Harlan School.  The invasion period may be 1-3 days after exposure.

Observe your child for symptoms during this period.  Keep your child home if he/she shows signs of illness.  Attacks of this disease may vary in severity, some may be very mild.  Either severe or mild cases may have serious complications.  It is usually from mild attacks that the disease spreads because the parent does not recognize the disease and fails to call the physician.

Cases of Scarlet Fever, Diphtheria, Smallpox, Tuberculosis, Infectious Hepatitis, Typhoid Fever and Salmonella (intestinal infections) should be reported to the Health Department immediately.  Children who have recovered from these diseases, except Scarlet Fever, must have clearance through the Department of Health in order to return to school.

Library Books

This is a gentle reminder that we will be visiting the media center tomorrow, Friday, January 9.  Please remember to have your child return their library books tomorrow so that they can check out new ones.

If you have any questions, please let me know.  Thank you in advance!
