Using Our Sense of Smell

In science, we continue to learn about using our five senses.  Here we are using our sense of smell!  We used cotton balls soaked in scented food extracts inside film canisters.  We were not able to see, hear, taste or touch what was inside.  We could only use our noses!  First we sniffed...

Then we drew what we thought the smell was...

After we found out what it really was, we smelled it again to check!

I was so surprised at the kindergartener's answers.  While most of us were able to identify "banana," when we smelled "peppermint," the guesses included toothpaste, dental floss, mint candy and candy canes!

For "lemon," some knew it as a food, others said dish soap and hand sanitizer, which of course can be citrus scented!  Finally, the scent of "vanilla" seems to be a sugary smell.  Guesses included donuts, cake, cotton candy and ice cream!
