Math Workshop Games

In differentiated math, we have been learning new concepts through lots of hands on exploration!

Here are some of the games we have practiced!

Froggy Hop
The children use a number line and to dice - one with dots and the other with plus and minus signs. Each player takes turns rolling both dice. They then move up or down the number line the number of spaces that to their dice indicate. The first person to get to 30 is the winner.

Another game we enjoyed was What's the Difference?

Here each player has their own stack of cards 0 to 10. Each player would then flip over their top card and place that many counters in a row above their decks. The players would then match counters from each row until there were extra ones left in one of the rows. We learned that this is the difference between the two numbers!

We also enjoyed Penny Plate, where we roll the dice to see how many pennies we can put on our plate. We then exchange every group of five for a nickel. The person with the most money at the end of the game is the winner!

Please know that photos from the differentiated math class may have students from other class rooms that join us for math. These are not new students to our classroom.
