Compass Learning and RazKids

Yesterday a letter was sent home informing parents of two great programs that can be used at home for extra practice - Compass Learning and Razkids.

If for some reason the link from our blog does not take you to our RazKids home page, you can search by my user name - mrkefgen100.  When you have found our class login page, click on your child's first name.  Passwords are located on the letter that was sent home yesterday.

On this site, I have assigned each student a level based on their scores from our most recent reading assessment.  By clicking "Your Assignment," your child will have access to their own e library of books, both fiction and nonfiction, all leveled for their individual progress.  Under each title, there are three icons - a book with an ear, which allows the children to listen to the book being read to them; a book with an eye, where they can read the book on their own; and a question mark, where they can take a comprehension quiz.  I think the best part of the quizzes is that the children can click on both the questions and the answer choices and have them read to them!  The more the children read, the more stars they earn!

Compass Learning is an amazing tool that is directly linked to our NWEA assessments that all of the Harlan students take at least 2 times per year.  In kindergarten, we take both the math and reading assessments.  Compass Learning takes the assessment results and customizes a "learning path" for each student based on their NWEA scores.  This site offers activities for both math and reading that are excellent practice while at home.  Harlan is encouraging all students to use this site as often as possible so that each child can continue to enhance their learning.

When using Compass Learning, please make sure that you have typed "harlan" in the school category.  Your child's user name and passwords are located on the letter that was sent home yesterday.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  Good luck and have fun!
