Stone Soup

A while ago, our class read the folk tale, Stone Soup!  It told the story of a group of traveling soldiers that need a place to stay.  When they come to a town that would not help them, they tricked the townspeople into using all of their best food to make a new kind of soup.  We loved the book so much, that we decided to follow the recipe in the book and make our own stone soup!  Everyone had a chance to add something, and everyone helped stir the soup during the day.

First, we added chicken stock.  In the book, they used water, but we wanted a little extra flavor...

They we added three stones (real, but washed)...

A dash of salt and pepper...

Carrots...

Cabbage...

Meat (finely chopped)...

Potatoes...

Barley...

And a little bit of cream...

We each took turns stirring it throughout the day.

We let it cook for 5 hours!  Our room smelled so good the whole day!  Finally, it was time to eat!  The soup was a BIG hit!
