Field Day Note from Mr. Price

Hi Parents,

Field Day is this Tuesday June 2nd and will be an “A” Day.

If you signed up to help at Field Day, please be here 15 minutes before the start of the time slot (A.M. Stations – be here by 9:15A.M. & P.M. Stations – be here by 1:00P.M.)

The Field Day water bottles arrived today, so you do not need to send a water bottle with your child. Sunscreen and a hat will do just fine!

Parents, feel free to come watch the 5th grade challenge starting at 3:00PM!

Here is the schedule for Field Day:

A.M. Field Day Stations (K-2) ~ 9:30AM-11:15AM

P.M. Field Day Stations (3-5) ~ 1:15PM-2:45PM

5th Grade Challenge (The Entire School cheering on 5th graders and eating popsicles) ~ 3:00PM-3:30PM

Please email me if you have any questions. Here is the sign up genius if you would like to see the lists of volunteers.

Service Learning Project

The first graders have been invited to participate in a wonderful service learning project next week!  One of our Harlan families currently works with an organization that collects and sends supplies to help the citizens of Kenya.  We will first be watching a presentation on how we, as Harlan first graders, can help children in another country.  Students will then be making custom soap for the children of Kenya in an effort to help improve hygiene and reduce the spread of disease.

Below is the sign-up genius for the materials that we would like donated. Additionally, each classroom will be looking for 10 parent volunteers on June 4th from 10:15-11:45.

Some of the items are a little unusual so please don't hesitate to contact me for additional clarification.

Plastic Toy Examples: These toys must be small enough to fit inside a 2 inch soap ball.
Thank you in advance for your support!

Gym Shoes for PE

Mr. Price has asked that even though the weather is warmer, the children bring a pair of gym shoes to change into if they wore sandals or flip flops to school.  Thank you!  :)

Media Center Books

Mrs. Stayer has asked that all media center books be returned by this Friday.  If you have any questions regarding missing or damaged media center books, please let me know so that  I can pass along the information.

Once more, please remember to send in any remaining media center books by this Friday, May 29. Thank you in advance for your help!   :)

Notice of Absence

As many families will be out of town for the long weekend,  please let the front office know via email if your child will not be at school on Friday, May 22nd. Notifying the front office ahead of time will cut down on the number of phone calls that need to be made to confirm absences. Your assistance is appreciated!

To contact the office, please email Mrs. McCormick at lmccormick@birmingham.k12.mi.us

I can also forward any emails that you send to me as well.

Thank you!

Pink Eye

A case of pink eye has been reported in our grade level.  Please make sure to check your child for symptoms and contact the office if your child has contracted it.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Toys at School

In the last few weeks, several toys have been misplaced somewhere in school leading to many sad moments. Please remind your student that they should keep all toys at home so that they are not lost.

I appreciate your help with this, as this will also help to cut down on distractions during the day. Several of my friends are having a hard time staying out of the cubby area during lessons and work time so that they can visit with their toys from home.

Thank you so much for your support with this!

Note from Mr. Price - Field Day 2015

Dear Parents,

Harlan’s Field Day is on Tuesday, June 2, 2015. Students will travel around to different stations which will be led by parent volunteers.

The first grouping of Field Day will represent Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students from 9:30A.M. - 11:15A.M. The second grouping will be Mrs. Priebe’s students, Mrs. McKinney’s students, and all 3rd, 4th and 5th graders from 1:15P.M. – 2:45P.M. The 5th grade challenge will be from 3:00P.M. - 3:30P.M.

If you would like to be a parent volunteer for this wonderful, life changing event on 6/2, please use the sign up genius link below or contact Mr. Price.

Thanks for all your help!  This event cannot occur without the help and support of others. Please consider signing up. Your children would love to see you run a station.

1st Grade Concert

This is a gentle reminder that the first graders will be performing in their first Harlan concert tomorrow, Wednesday, May 13 at 3:00pm.  Mrs. Cooper is asking that the children wear their class shirts (or any green shirt) and dark bottoms.

All families and friends are welcome to attend.  We hope to see you tomorrow at 3:00pm!

Poet Visit

Yesterday the first graders had the pleasure of meeting poet Jeff Whitcher.  We were able to ask him questions about poetry and listen to some of his silly poems for children.  A mail order was sent home yesterday in case you and your child are interested in ordering any of Mr. Whitcher's poetry books. Please make checks payable to Jeff Whitcher if you plan to order one or more books.

Thank you!
