Poetry Notebooks

Today we started our year-long poetry unit. Every Friday, our class will be learning a new poem. After reading it several times, while practicing one-to-one correspondence, we will be illustrating and doing a variety of activities with that week's poem.

This week our poem was the Alphabet Song! After practicing it, we decided to circle the letters in our names!

Over the weekend, please go over this week's poem with your child. One way to practice would be to have them point to each letter as you sing along. You could also ask them to give you the sound or a word that starts with that letter.

Please return your child's poetry notebook to school on Monday. The notebook will come home the following Friday with an additional poem added to it. By the end of the school year, your child will have an entire book of poems that they learned in kindergarten!
