Milestone #3 Visal Aid is Due Dec. 8

Milestone #3 of your child's exhibition is due next Thursday, Dec. 8.  A note will be coming home in your child's folder with more information.  Please know that this milestone is a COMPLETED visual aid for your child's presentation.  This means that what they turn in is what they will be using during their exhibition.  Please make sure to include the following:

- Pictures that your child can understand and explain
- Hand written facts (by your child) that they have learned through their research.  The facts that they completed for milestone #2 should be included.  If your child would like to add additional facts, that would be great!
- Title

This milestone can not, and should not, be done in one night.  There are too many parts that include cutting, gluing, writing and organizing.  As I expect this to be your child's work (with some help from you), they will need time to complete this and be able to comprehend what it is they are doing.  I suggest that you and your child work on this a little bit each night so that this visual aid does not cause you or your child any stress.

If I can help your child complete this on time, please let me know what it is that I can do.  Our classroom is always open if you need any art supplies (markers, crayons, poster paper, etc.) or are in need of internet/computer and printer access.

Good luck!  I am very excited to see what the children come up with!

Picture Day

This is a gentle reminder that this Wednesday, Nov. 30, will be class picture day.  If your child will be ordering pictures, you may send your child to school in free dress.  If you are not ordering pictures, please send your child to school in their uniforms.  If you have any questions, please let myself or the office know as soon as possible.  Thank you!

Shining Light

The week before our Thanksgiving Break, our class honored Jarvis as our Shining Light!  Jarvis was chosen because of how hard he works at school.  Jarvis does his best in everything he tries and helps to inspire positive choices in his peers.  Great work, Jarvis!

Reading Buddies!

Today, we had some special visitors join us!  Ms. Martin's 5th grade class made a special trip to the 1st floor to read to the kindergarteners!  We were so excited and made excellent choices while being read to.  While the 5th graders brought a book with them to share, some finished early.  This gave our class a chance to pick their favorite books from our library and have their buddies read it to them.  I was so impressed as I watched some of our friends retell the story as they pointed to each picture, notice sight words we have been practicing, or pointing out different letters in the books!  They also did a wonderful job of discussing what had just been read to them.  Here we are, hard at work, with our reading buddies!

Thank you Ms. Martin's class for reading to us!  We had so much fun with the "big kids!"

Veteran's Day Visitor

Last Friday, our class welcomed a special visitor into our room.  Gemar's aunt, Ms. Lenyoun, joined us to talk about her recent time in Afghanistan.  She brought her uniform to show us, as well as her dog tags and an Afghan coin!  She was able to tell us all about the differences between our country and theirs, including weather, schooling and clothing.  Thank you, Ms. Lenyoun for joining us and sharing your stories!

Measuring

On Friday, we learned about measuring.  We used our linking cubes to measure how long objects were in our classroom.  We also learned that when you measure something, you need to be sure that you start at one end and go all the way to the other end without going over.   Here we are measuring crayons, chair legs and books from our library.  We even took one of our dragons, Amarillo, out and measured her from nose to tail!  She was 23 cubes long!

I is for Igloo

We had a blast learning all about the letter Ii!  We loved how we can hear it at the beginning of words, but more often hear it in the middle.  Check out some pictures of the igloos that we made to celebrate the letter Ii!

We even added gummy penguins and coconut snow to make them look as real as possible!

J is for Jam

When we learned all about the letter Jj, we had our own JAMboree!  We even made our own homemade strawberry jam!  Each child got to cut strawberries, help work the food processor, add sugar and pectin (a powder that helps the jam stick together), and stir the mixture.  We had an amazing time and the room smelled great!

We got to try our recipe at snack on some crackers.  It was a big hit!

The best part was getting our own "jam jar" to take some home and share it with our families!  We hope you liked it!

Noodle Necklaces

Our class has been working hard at identifying and creating patterns.  Here we are wearing the patterns we designed using colored noodles!
