Learning About Our 5 Senses

Our current science unit is about our five senses. We have learned that our senses send information to our brain in different ways. Earlier this week we learned what our five senses are. Yesterday, we did our first science experiment using our sense of sight.

Using primary paint colors, we mixed two together at a time to see what color we would make. We determined that we wouldn't know if the colors were changing by listening, smelling, feeling or tasting the paint. We needed our sense of sight to know what the new color was!

We talked about how her sense of sight not only helps us with colors, but shapes, words and recognizing our friends and families!

Fall Frolic is Tomorrow, Oct. 4

This is a gentle reminder that the Harlan Fall Frolic will be held tomorrow, Friday, October 4 from 6-8 PM.

The Frolic will include prizes, games, food and lots of fun family activities! There will even be games in our classroom!

I hope to see everyone there! I will be the one making cotton candy!

Harlan Spirit Day

Tomorrow, Friday, October 4, we will be celebrating our Harland spirit! Please send your child to school in their heart and class T-shirts.

If your child has not received their shirt yet, our class color is turquoise. If your child has anything that color, or any other Harlan shirts from siblings you are welcome to wear those as well!

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Science Project Posters

If your kindergartener participated in the citizen scientist program over the summer, and they completed a visual aid for our citizen science expo, the posters and boards are located on a table in the front lobby.

Please pick them up at your earliest convenience.

Thank you!

Family Pictures

I have received a few family pictures, but I have not received a picture from everyone.  Please send in a standard size picture of your family for our family wall.  This can include those who live in your house, or anyone in your family.  I would like to put these pictures up on Friday for the Fall Frolic, so if you have not sent one in yet, please do so this week.

Thank you!

Peanut Free Snacks

I wanted to send a gentle reminder that all snacks should be PEANUT FREE in our classroom.  I have noticed several snacks recently that were not safe for our classroom.  In this case,  I give extra snacks to those friends who require a safe snack.

Please remember to check labels on food packages.  While there may not be obvious peanuts as an ingredient, unsafe food labels usually indicate that the food was "processed in a facility that also processes nuts," or "product was made on machinery that also processes nuts."

To keep everyone in Room 100 safe, I ask that you please check the labels before sending them into our classroom.  Below is a link to a website that is frequently updated to include peanut free foods, as well as other allergens, that can be safely brought into our classroom.

Please click on Safe Snack Guide and download the latest list.  If you have any questions, please let me know.  Thank you in advance for your help!
