Flying into Research!

This week, the kindergartners began our first research project! We are currently learning about birds of prey. For this project, the students used the database PebbleGo in the computer lab to learn about five different birds of prey – eagles, falcons, vultures, hawks and owls.

After learning about all of the different birds of prey, our class voted on which one we would like to create a book about. The eagle one by an overwhelming majority!

After deciding on our bird, the kindergartners created a list of facts that they had learned from PebbleGo. We then organized the information that they learned into four categories-what eagles eat, look like, where they live and fun facts.

Our next step will be for each kindergartner to choose one fact and create a page to be part of a class research book. When all three kindergarten class books are complete, we will trade books to learn about the other birds of prey that we did not choose!

As a surprise for the kindergartners, we will have the Howell Nature Center bring real birds of prey for the kids to see! This is a surprise, so please don't let them know!  :)
