This week, we made Alphabet Soup! We started in our Phonics lesson by playing a game. First, we were given a shopping list for ingredients - the letters in our names! Each kindergartener traveled around the room to different "grocery stores" to find the right ingredients, before returning to their seat to make sure they had everything they needed to make their soup...
We then took our letters and a partner's and put them in a bowl. Each friend took a turn stirring up the letters - and of course blowing on it! - and scooping up one letter from the bowl. If the letter scooped was in their name, they told their partner one thing that started with that letter and got to keep it. If the letter they scooped was not in their name, they put it back in the bowl for their partner to stir and scoop. We had a blast with this game!
After playing the game, we decided to make our own REAL Alphabet Soup! The kindergarteners each had a chance to add vegetables, broth and alphabet noodles and stir the soup! The room smelled so good as it was cooking...
Our soup cooked all day! When it was finally time to eat it, we poured it into cups and stirred it 100 time while we counted to help cool it off! It was the perfect warm end to a chilly winter day!
Soups on!
