Groundhogs Day

Before Groundhogs Day, we spent the week learning all about groundhogs, especially Puxatawney Phil!  On the morning of Groundhogs Day, we made a graph predicting if we thought Phil would see his shadow or not.  We then watched a news video from earlier in the morning to see what happened with Phil.  Here is our graph and some Groundhogs Day writing!

100s Day!

We had such a great time on our 100th day of kindergarten! Check out the hats that the children created using 100 objects! They were so creative - cotton balls, candy, stickers, cereal, buttons, you name it!

We also had 100 themed activities!  Here we are making a pizza with 100 topping!

We made our own 100 Day trail mix.  We used 10 pieces of 10 different snack to create 100 piece trail mix.  It tasted do good!

Our centers were also focused on the number 100.  We played a dice rolling game up to 100, wrote our numbers to 100 and made 100 fingerprints!

Finally, we made a list of things that we would want and would NOT want 100 of.  Check out what we said!

We had such a great day!  We can't wait for the next 100 days of school!

Mystery Reader

Thank you to Antoneyo's mom who surprised us as the mystery reader at our village meeting!  We loved hearing the book Harry the Dog!

Sweethearts Dance

Back in February, our school held its annual Sweethearts Dance.  Everyone had a great time enjoying the food and music!  Here are a a few of our friends taking a break from all the dancing!

Measuring

In math, we have practiced different types of measuring.  After learning about using our feet, and then standard feet, we learned about other ways to measure things.  We used a ruler for things smaller that our feet, and a tape measure for things that have curves.  This is a great thing to practice at home!  Remember to line up the object with the end of the measuring tool!

Blog Updates

Hello kindergarten families!  I wanted to apologize for the lack of blog updates lately.  Ever since my week of jury duty, I have been taking lots of pictures, but have not put them on the blog yet!  Please expect regular updates again from this point forward.  I have also included this picture of a graph that the children did while I was at jury duty.  I though they had some great ideas!

Girls Who Dream

This year, our school has started a new group known as the Girls Who Dream.  This is an after-school opportunity for the girls in our school to participate in activities that foster and encourage their hopes and dreams for the future.  In our class, Nia, Karima and Tonia are Girls Who Dream!

Girls Who Dream has teamed up with Soldiers’ Angels! Soldiers' Angels is a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing aid and comfort to the men and women of the United States Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and their families.

During the month of April, Girls Who Dream will be hosting a drive to collect items that will be used in the backpacks that are given to the soldiers when they depart. We will be collecting items such as: Baby Wipes, Beef Jerky, Tuna Packets, Pretzels, Chips, Crackers, Cookies, Hand Sanitizer, Travel Size bathroom items (Shaving Cream, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner and toothpaste), Toothbrushes and Razors, etc.

The class that collects the most items will be given a pizza party on Friday, May 4th.

If you can, let's help our Girls Who Dream help others!  You can donate and drop off items throughout the month in our classroom!  Thank you in advance for your help!
