I have been asked to pass on this information from our Rally for the Rutherfords co-chairs.  I hope to see many of you there for the dinner, entertainment and prizes!  I will be the one selling raffle tickets!

Please be aware that if the Birmingham Public Schools are closed tomorrow (Wednesday) due to inclement weather, the Rally for the Rutherfords Fundraiser will still take place at Harlan Elementary from 5-8pm as planned.

Rally or the Rutherfords

Dear Harlan Families -

This Wednesday is our Rally for the Rutherfords Fundraiser!  This fun, family-friendly event will take place at Harlan Elementary from 5-8pm.  Tickets will be available at the door for $10/person, and includes dinner and lots of great entertainment.

We are expecting a huge turnout for this event, so there are a couple of things to be aware of:

• Parking.  Space is limited in the Harlan parking lot; there will be overflow parking available on the side streets near Harlan, at Pilgrim Congregational Church and at Derby Middle School.  There will be a shuttle running between Harlan, Derby and Pilgrim Church throughout the night.  If you live near Harlan, we ask that you walk or carpool when at all possible!
• Supervision.  It is important that children be accompanied by an adult at all times.

We hope to see many of you on Wednesday night as we come together for a great cause!

Valentine's Party Reminders

Our Valentine's party will be held tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 14 from 2 - 3pm.  We will be enjoying a special treat, making a Valentine's craft and playing a new game!  We will also be passing out our own Valentines, if your child chose to bring these in to share.  Please remember that you do not have to send cards/treats in with your child, but if you choose to do so, please make sure that there is one for everyone.

Pinkeye

There is a case of pinkeye in our grade level.  I wanted to make you aware, so that you can be on the lookout for the symptoms.  These may include:

-Crusts that form on the eyelids overnight
-Gritty feeling in the eye
-Redness in the eye
-Sensitivity to light
-Increased tearing

Envelopes

If you have not yet returned your signed report card envelopes, please send them to school on Friday, February 8.  Thank you in advance!

Valentine's Day

Next week, our class will be celebrating Valentine's Day!  Our class party will be held on Thursday, Feb. 14, from 2 - 3pm.  All families are welcome to attend!  We will be enjoying treats, playing games and spending time with our friends and families!

In the morning, we will be passing out Valentines cards.  If your child would like to pass out cards and/or treats, please make sure that they have one for everyone in the class.  Please know that you child does not have to pass out cards or treats, as this is completely optional.  We will be making mailboxes next week to collect our Valentines!

Report Cards and Envelopes

Report Cards were sent home yesterday.  Please sign the front of the envelope and return it to school so that I know you have received it.  If you have any questions, please let me know.  Thank you in advance!

Late Start on Thursday, Feb. 7

This is a gentle reminder that this Thursday, February 7, will be a LATE START day.  School will begin at 10:25am.  All buses will run 90 minutes later than their usual times.  School will end at the same time in the afternoon.

Strep Throat

It was just brought to my attention that there is another case of strep throat in our grade level. Please be aware. If your child is sick, please keep them at home and notify the office. If you have any questions, please let me know. Thank you in advance.
