Missing Dragon

Last week all of the first graders were able to bring home the fantastic animal sculptures that they made in Mr. Fackler's art class.  Unfortunately, dragons seem to be the "in" thing and a few have been mixed up and brought home by mistake.

If your child brought home a dragon with oval ears, please ask them if it is the one that they made in school.  They went home wrapped in newspaper, so the children did not see them before taking them home from art class.

Thank you for your help in finding our missing dragon.

Teachers Go Bananas!

Today the Harlan staff and students celebrated the 3rd annual Teachers Go Bananas Day! Each teacher in the building chose a book and dressed as the main character.  Each time the song "Banana Phone" by Raffi was played over the PA, the teachers "went bananas" and ran into another classroom to read their book!

The first Grade Team dressed as Caps for Sale (Mr. Kefgen), The Sneetches (Mrs. Cibor) and Miss Nelson is Missing (Mrs. Jameson).  We had so much fun!

HAPPY MARCH IS READING MONTH!

Lice

Pediculosis (lice) has been reported in your student’s grade level at Harlan School.  The invasion period may be until viable eggs are destroyed after exposure.

Observe your child for symptoms during this period.  Keep your child home if he/she shows signs of illness.  Attacks of this disease may vary in severity.  Some may be very mild.  Either severe or mild cases may have serious complications.  It is usually from mild attacks that the disease spreads because the parent does not recognize the disease and fails to call the physician.

Cases of Scarlet Fever, Diphtheria, Smallpox, Tuberculosis, Infectious Hepatitis, Typhoid Fever and Salmonella (intestinal infections) should be reported to the Health Department immediately.  Children who have recovered from these diseases, except Scarlet Fever, must have clearance through the Department of Health in order to return to school.

Raz Kids Challenge

This month we will be having a Raz Kids Challenge!

For each book that your child reads on Raz Kids, they earn stars that can be "spent" in the site's building room.  Today I am extending a challenge to the 1st Graders of Room 112!

As of March 10, I have record how many stars each child in our class has earned through reading their assigned books.  Currently all levels have been updated with new assignments, with books available at their instructional level, as well as one level below (comfort books) and one level higher (challenge books).

Here is the challenge:

Every child who earns 750 stars or more over the next 3 weeks will be able to eat their lunch in our classroom with myself on March 31!  We will eat while we watch a silly cartoon and be done in enough time for your child to join their class for lunch recess!

This gives everyone 3 weeks to earn those stars!

Remember, when you use the login, the teacher user name is "mrkefgen" and your child's password is their last name and their birthday in numbers (May 27 = kefgen527).

Good luck and I cant wait to check in in a few days!
